“Jack and the Amazing Beanstalk” Theatre Camp Slated for Tyrone in July

Offshoot Productions, which has presented with great success previous theatre camps and classes for the Tyrone Recreation Department, will offer a new camp this summer: ‘Jack and the Amazing Beanstalk.” During this one-week session, participants will learn how create fascinating characters, propel a fast-paced plot, and incorporate music and stylized movement into a production.

Designed for ages 7 to 15, the camp meets Monday to Friday, July 28 through August 1, from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m. Part of the time campers work in small groups according to age, and part of the time everyone works together to mold the brief ensemble piece to be presented on Friday. This camp, which costs $95, is suitable both for those with theatre experience and for newcomers to the stage.

Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. and Paige Steadman will helm the project. Dr. Steadman, Offshoot’s producing artistic director since 1993, has staged nearly 70 productions for professional, alternative, community and university theatres. A Dramatists Guild member and produced playwright, she has also penned many publications on theatrical literature and practice, including the critically lauded book, Dramatic Re-Visions. She holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University.

Paige Steadman is Offshoot’s musical director and composer as well as an experienced actor who is currently touring in Tales from Near and Far and appearing with the Gallery Players improvisation troupe.
